WEEK 3 #5,6,&7

I found a new wiki this week thanks to twitter (twitter name: congerjan). Someone posted a link to a wiki being created by David Warlick called Warlick’s CoLearners. It has some wonderful links and information but the first thing I thought when I saw it was how did David Warlick take a picture of his Second Life (SL) avatar and have it facing the camera. I have tried and tried to take a picture of my avatar and she is always facing the other way. If you have a suggestion I would love to hear it.

Explored a little more on Flickr and tagged the two photos I uploaded today: School Library learning2.0.

Oh, I was also amazed that David Warlick does not have his own Wikipedia page. Think we should start one? Just looked up Joyce Valenza and she doesn't have a Wikipedia page either. Something wrong with this picture?

Now what kind of wikipedia page would you want for David or Joyce? Joyce does have a professional wiki page at http://informationfluency.wikispaces.com/

As far as taking a pix face on in SL--oh yes it can be done. Copied this form somewhere just now by googling "talke a picture in sl"

You may find it frustrating at first to take pictures of yourself because you won't be facing the camera. To make your avatar face the camera, you can use the camera controls. That is, you don't always have to look at the world from the point of view you currently see. Your eyes are the camera (that shows you the whole screen), they are not the same as your avatar's perspective. So it is possible to get the camera to point directly at your avatar -- that's one thing you can't do in real life! The pictures you take of yourself for this assignment must demonstrate that you are controlling the camera by showing your avatar's face. Camera control is a bit tricky to get a hang of, but here are the basics:

* Hold down the ALT key and pick a point on the screen that you want to focus on by clicking on it. The camera will now stay pointed at that spot.
* Use the mouse to pan around the point (left and right movement) or to zoom in or out (up or down movement)
* If you want to change the angle of the camera, hold down the CTRL key and up and down movement of the mouse will now change the tilt of the camera.
* If you want to go back to your regular view from just behind your avatar, press the ESC key
